Grandma's 80th Birthday

My dad's mom, Grandma Nancy just turned 80! I cannot believe that she is 80.  My aunt Laura invited me over to her house for a birthday party.  It wasn't a surprise party, but there were lots of friends and family there to help celebrate the occasion.
I took Brayden with me.  Brock did not want to go and Brylee was sick so I thought it best not to take her.  My sister and Isabella went as well.
I got there around 6:30 and the party was well under way.  My grandma eyed me right away and gave me a big hug.
I then got to visit with family and a few friends.  I even ran into one lady that I used to manage when I worked at Lloyd Center.  Small world! She is really good friends with my Aunt Laura and my half-brother Chris.  We took a little time to catch up as well.

It was a really nice evening.  I was surprised at how comfortable it all felt.  I do not see my Grandma that much anymore and I realize that these chances are floating by.  And even though I had a lot of trouble with my Dad, there is still that part of the family I need to stay connected with.

Glad you girls made it to Grandma Nancy's 80th birthday party. It is good to still be connected to your Merten family. Everyone looks happy with big smiles.

So I found this desk I don't know just over a year ago.  It was before we moved.  My mother-in-law was visiting and we spotted this kids desk sitting out at a neighbor's house with a Free sign on it.  Brad was sceptical and wondered why I picked it up.  It needed a little work, but I thought it would be great as an art desk for the kids.  Before: When we moved it came along with us.  I had not touched it up to that point.  And after we moved it sat for a month or so as it was not one of the top priorities at the time.  Late November (I think) we finally went and picked out some paint for it.  The boys and I decided on a bright orange.  Yes, we are talking "Construction Warning" orange! Peacock Lane

We took a trip to a local Christmas Landmark- Peacock Lane.  It is in Portland.  Every house on the lane decorates with Christmas lights.  Several do amazing things! I had not been since I was younger.  I had wanted to take the kids in the past couple years, but we just did not make it. We had a clear, dry night and took advantage. :)
